Ok, so we all know what happened to George Clooney and Julianna Margulies (although she had disappeared for some years), but what has happened to one of the biggest hit dramas? Not all of those actors may have been looking for work, perhaps happy with the money they made on the show, but do they look envious at Clooney’s career or not?
Let’s start with the stars of Season 1 (as they appeared in the opening credits):
Anthony Edwards: Starred in a few films, most notably Thunderbirds (2004), The Forgotten (2004) and Zodiac (2007). His next film is Big Sur, based on Jack Kerouac’s writings, starring alongside Josh Lucas and Kate Bosworth. He was also one of the producers of the American hit TV movie Temple Grandin.
George Clooney: Director, movie star etc etc
Sherry Stringfield: A string of TV movies (8 in the last 3 years).
Noah Wyle: He was in Donnie Darko I suppose; and those The Librarian movies. Then the TV series Falling Skies (don’t know much about it). He is starring in the forthcoming miniseries (2013) called To Appomattox which to quote imdb: “The emotional lives of America’s most revered national icons – the Civil War generals, their wives and families – against a backdrop of a war.” It’s got Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as Ulysses Simpson Grant, Will Patton as Robert Lee and William Peterson as W. T. Sherman – so I’m sure it’ll be a big hit in the States.
Julianna Margulies: It was a rocky road there for a while (Snakes on a Plane) but now in the massive hit The Good Wife.
Gloria Reuben: Bit parts in various programmes like Law and Order: SVU and Raising the Bar. Another bit-part in a film coming out next year called Lincoln – which has a bit of an amazing cast: Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, Jared Harris, and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. But Reuben also has an impressive career outside of tv – acting on the stage, singing and a lobbying career that includes a position as special advisor on climate change for Al Gore’s organisation, ‘Alliance for Climate Protection’.
Eriq la Salle: Small roles in 24, Covert Affairs, How to Make it in America and A Gifted Man.
And then in later seasons:
Laura Innes: In The Event (cancelled after one season).
Maura Tierney: Established before the show. Had to pull out of Parenthood because she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Seems to be healthy now as has been in various tv shows including Rescue Me.
Alex Kingston: Established before the show. River Song; in the new Upstairs and Downstairs.
Goran Visnjic: Was in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the Fincher version) and Pan Am.
Mario Bello: A successful film career (including Coyote Ugly of course) and the star of the cancelled US-remake of Prime Suspect.
Ming-Na: SGU Stargate Universe; some episodes of A Town Called Eureka.
Paul McCrane: Was in 7 episodes of the Kathy Bates’ show, Harry’s Law. Also directed one episode of that show as well as 2 episodes of CSI. I guess he does look a bit like Ron Howard.
Mekhi Phifer: Recently in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Also in Rescue Me.
Shane West: Nikita.
And then those in the last season:
David Lyons: Star of The Cape (also cancelled).
Parminder Nagra: Came hot off the heels of her success in Bend it Like Beckham. Now starring as Lucy Banerjee in the JJ-Abrams new show Alcatraz.
John Stamos: Famous before the show, so can’t blame or praise ER for anything. Was in Glee for a bit.
Linda Cardellini: Also known from Freaks and Geeks and the Scooby Doo movies before. Saw an interesting trailer recently for an indie-film she’s in called Return.
Scott Grimes: Again, known from Party of Five. He’s Steve Smith’s voice in American Dad!
